Drosera capensis 'Hercules'
Registered in 2017 as a cross between D. capensis 'Alba' and D. aliciae, but whether 'Hercules' is truly a hybrid remains an open question. Seedlings come out remarkably uniform and the plant behaves like a capensis in every way except size. Most growers today lean towards the simpler explanation: a wide-leaf D. capensis that outgrew its species. It had already been circulating under the earlier name D. henryana before the cultivar was formally registered.
D. capensis grows across the Western Cape of South Africa, in marshes, stream banks, and seepages from sea level to around 1200 m. 'Hercules' is a selection from cultivation, not a wild-collected form.
Everything is scaled up. Broad, strap-shaped leaves on thick petioles, held upright, with leaves reaching about 15 cm. Flowers are disproportionately large for a capensis, pink, on tall hairy scapes. Fast-growing, easy to propagate from leaf cuttings, and just as undemanding as the species it may or may not be.
