Drosera x "Andromeda"

schizandra x prolifera

A cross between two of the three Queensland sisters: D. schizandra and D. prolifera, the rainforest sundews of northeast Australia. It was created by Czech grower Kamil Pasek. The name was never formally registered, but it stuck in the trade.

Both parents grow along shaded stream banks in the mountain rainforests of northeast Queensland, in permanently cool and humid conditions with little direct light. The hybrid inherits those preferences and does best in a shaded terrarium.

Broad paddle-shaped leaves in a rosette that can reach 10 to 13 cm across, green with reddish tentacles, heavily coated in sticky mucilage. From D. prolifera it inherited the habit of producing plantlets at the tips of flower stalks, like a strawberry runner. More robust than either parent, and a good entry point into the Queensland sisters.
